Seven modules.
Six hours.

From a working install on your own PC to a full drawing check you can hand to your team.

Getting Started

How Claude talks to AutoCAD, what it does well, where it gets things wrong, and four safety rules used in every lesson.

How it worksLimitsSafety rules
  • 1See a live demo of Claude answering a question about a real AutoCAD drawing.
  • 2Understand how the connector bridges Claude and AutoCAD, and what it can and cannot touch.
  • 3Learn the four safety rules that protect your drawing from accidental edits.
  • 4Practise writing a first prompt and reading the response back in AutoCAD.

Installation, Step by Step

Python, the connector, the Claude desktop app and your first health check. Includes a troubleshooting clinic for the errors people actually hit.

Python 3.12Claude Code tabHealth checkTroubleshooting
  • 1Install Python 3.12 on Windows and add it to PATH.
  • 2Clone and configure the autocad-mcp connector on your machine.
  • 3Set up the Claude desktop app and turn on the Code tab.
  • 4Run the health check prompt and confirm AutoCAD responds.
  • 5Troubleshoot the five most common installation errors, step by step.

Asking the Drawing Questions

Get reliable answers about any drawing, then prove them in AutoCAD with QSELECT, LIST and Properties.

LayersDimensionsBlocks & xrefsGood prompts
  • 1Ask Claude to list all layers in a drawing and count objects by layer.
  • 2Query dimensions and block names, then verify the answers in AutoCAD using QSELECT and LIST.
  • 3Identify xref attachments and check which are loaded or unresolved.
  • 4Write good prompts — specific, verifiable — and spot the difference between a confident wrong answer and a reliable one.

Quantities and Takeoffs

Turn drawings into numbers a project team can use, from steel member schedules to civil lengths and areas.

Steel scheduleFixingsm and m²Excel
  • 1Generate a steel member schedule from a structural drawing — beam sizes, quantities and lengths.
  • 2Count fixings and fasteners by type and export to a table.
  • 3Measure kerb lengths and pavement areas from a civil site plan.
  • 4Copy the output into Excel and format it as a project takeoff sheet.

Clean-up and Drawing Standards

Change drawings safely and bring them up to your office layer standard before submission.

Safe edit loopBulk layer changesByLayerStandards check
  • 1Use the safe-edit loop: preview, confirm, then let Claude make the change.
  • 2Move objects from wrong layers to the correct ones in bulk.
  • 3Set all overrides to ByLayer so the drawing follows the layer standard.
  • 4Run a full standards check and produce a one-page report of what was fixed.

Drafting by Prompt

Set up a drawing and place simple geometry from a description, and learn when drafting by hand is still faster.

Layer setupGeometry from coordinates
  • 1Create a new drawing and set up layers from a prompt.
  • 2Place lines, rectangles and circles from coordinate descriptions.
  • 3Add text and dimensions to a simple layout using only prompts.
  • 4Compare prompt-based drafting with direct AutoCAD commands — and know which to choose.

Capstone and Certificate

Audit, measure and fix one real drawing, write it up as a one-page QA report, and pass the quiz to earn your certificate.

QA reportQuizCertificate
  • 1Receive the capstone drawing — a real civil or structural file with intentional issues.
  • 2Use Claude to audit, measure and fix it, applying everything from Modules 1 to 6.
  • 3Write a one-page QA report summarising what was found and what was changed.
  • 4Pass the quiz (80% to pass) and download your certificate of completion.

What's in the Student Pack
Every enrolment includes these resources — yours to keep.
🏗️
Steel Frame DWG
Portal frame drawing used in Module 4 quantity takeoffs — real dimensions, multiple layers.
🗺️
Civil Site Plan DWG
Site layout used to practise length and area takeoffs — roads, kerbs, drainage.
🧹
Messy Drawing DWG
A deliberately non-standard drawing for Module 5 clean-up and layer-standard exercises.
💬
Prompt Library
Tested prompts for common tasks: layer audits, dimension counts, block schedules, clean-ups.
✅
Install Checklist
Step-by-step PDF for Python, the connector, Claude desktop app — and the top 5 error fixes.
📐
Layer Standard Template
DWT / DWG with a clean RF Design layer standard — ready to adapt for your own office.

The autocad-mcp connector is open-source software — MIT licence — puran-water/autocad-mcp with patches by L4 Engenharia. RF Design teaches the workflow, supplies the drawings, prompt library and support.

Got questions?

A small open-source connector links Claude to the drawing you have open. You type a request such as "count the Bolt M20 blocks" and Claude reads the drawing and answers. It can also make changes you ask for, like moving objects to the right layer, which you review before saving.
No. Everything is done by typing requests in plain English. The installation is guided step by step, and Module 2 covers every error students usually run into.
AutoCAD 2024 or newer, full or LT, on Windows 10 or 11. The connector does not work on Mac.
The connector is free and open source. You need your own AutoCAD licence and a paid Claude plan that includes the Code tab in the desktop app.
The course teaches a routine to save first, preview changes and undo anything you don't want. Drawing information you ask about is sent to the AI service to be processed, so check your company's policy before using it on client work.
The course is in production now. Join the waitlist and you will be told first when enrolment opens.
